2020 East-West Bowl Hopefuls

The 2019 U Sports football season has come to a close and the Calgary Dinos have emerged as this years Vanier Cup champions. Just because the playing season has ended does not mean that the U Sports football season is over. Draft hopefuls across the nation will begin off-season training and preparation for this years CFL Draft process.
The East-West Bowl is one step in the draft process that players, scouts, and coaches look forward too each and every season. The East-West Bowl brings together the best third year prospects from across the nation for one of the most exciting weeks in Canadian University football. The athletes participate in film sessions, on field practices, and combine events such as, the 40-yard dash, vertical leap, and bench press among others. The event culminates with Team East and Team West going head-to-head in a competitive battle to showcase some of the best draft eligible athletes for the upcoming 2020 U Sports football season. Below are names to know, as well as a list of the 2020 East-West Bowl hopefuls.
Players to Watch

Quarterback - Tre Ford - Waterloo Warriors - OUA
The Warriors signal caller added another impressive season to his resume. Finishing the season with 2158 passing yards and 13 passing touchdowns, Ford was one of the most consistent quarterbacks in the OUA this season. Ford has a talented right arm and put on a showcase in the 2019 OUA season. Ford’s ability to run the ball is equally impressive. Ford carried the ball 67 this season accumulating 634 yards and 6 rushing touchdowns. Ford possesses elite level traits and is sure to do something special every time he laces up his cleats.
Running back - Adam Machart - Saskatchewan Huskies - CW
Huskies running back, Adam Machart finished the 2019 season as a Hec Crighton finalist and the leading rusher in the country. Machart carried the ball 195 times for the Huskies this season piling up an astonishing 1610 yards and 9 touchdowns. Machart averaged 8.2 yards per carry on the season and was a key component in the Huskies offensive success this past season. Machart is a special player who will surely wow fans and coaches alike at the 2020 East-West Bowl.
Receiver - Will Corby/Nolan Lovegrove - Toronto Varsity Blues - OUA
As the legendary (West Canaan) Varsity Blues head coach Bud Kilmer once said, “the only pain that matters is the pain you inflict”. My goodness did this pair of receivers inflict some pain on opposing defences. Corby lead the nation in receiving yards, totalling 797 yards. Lovegrove was fourth in the nation stacking up 762 receiving yards. The pair of receivers also lead the country in receiving touchdowns, each totalling 8. Lovegrove and Corby are a dynamic pair who work well off of each other, each creating space and separation for the other. Corby and Lovegrove were two of the most exciting receivers in the country this past season.
Defensive Back - Nelson Lokombo - Saskatchewan Huskies - CW
Speed, athleticism, tenacity, ball hawk. All of which can be used to describe Saskatchewan defensive back, Nelson Lokombo. Lokombo tallied 39 tackles, 6 tackles for loss, a forces fumble, 3 sacks, 5 interceptions, and 4 pass break ups. An unprecedented season from the Huskies third year defensive back. Lokombos incredible display earned him the U Sports President’s trophy for defensive player of the year. Lokombo is a versatile defensive back who can line up anywhere on the field and make an impact.
