The Betting Perspective - CGY @ EDM

Calgary @ Edmonton (pk): TOTAL 43.5

Another Labour Day rematch in Week 6 goes down in Edmonton as the Elks battle the struggling Calgary Stampeders Saturday.

For the Stampeders, all things point to the return of quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell this weekend against the Elks. Mitchell has missed the last three games after undergoing surgery to repair a broken fibula. The Stamps sit with the worst record right now in the CFL at 1-4 despite fill-in rookie quarterback Jake Maier throwing for over 300 yards in each of his three starts. The offense for Calgary has not been the issue, on the other hand, their defense is reeling after allowing Elks quarterback Trevor Harris to throw for 398 yards and four touchdowns on Labour Day. To make things more bleak, Calgary have given up the most passing yards in the CFL at almost 320 yards per game.

As for Edmonton, things are looking up for the Elks, they've pulled off back to back wins over two divisional opponents. Trevor Harris has turned the corner after a wretched opening couple of weeks when it looked like the Elks were never going to score despite a stud core of weapons. In Week 5, Harris threw touchdowns to four different receivers and none of the wideouts that scored were named Derel Walker or Greg Ellingson. One the guys who hauled in a Labour score against the Stamps was Mike Jones, the former Ticat has already found the endzone twice this season. In comparison, Jones didn't score in 2019 and only compiled 319 yards through 18 games, those numbers can't hold a candle to his 222 yards receiving through just four games in 2021. The Elks defense have been the most consistent part of their squad so far and interior pass rusher Jake Ceresna looks like an early season defensive MOP candidate, recording 12 tackles and three sacks already this season.

The betting line has seen a big swing this week but maybe not big enough, the Elks were +6 on Labour Day versus the Stamps and the line for this one sits at only a pick'em. The return of Bo Levi Mitchell is probably the only reason this isn't a field goal spread for the Elks but as mentioned earlier, the Stamps offense hasn't been the issue.

Trevor Harris is still the more productive quarterback heading into Saturday, the Elks defense is clearly better than the Stamps defense and now we're getting Edmonton at Commonwealth.

Ride the Elks again.
