The Betting Perspective - CGY @ OTT

Calgary (-10.5) @ Ottawa: TOTAL 43.5

Week 13 in the Canadian Football League unofficially kicks off the final month of the regular season and festivities get started in the Nation's capital Friday night, as the Calgary Stampeders roll into town to battle the Ottawa Redblacks.

The Stamps hit a speed bump last week, falling to the Saskatchewan Roughriders 20-17 after turning their season around with three straight victories. Calgary quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell put up a season-high 311 passing yards just a week ago, but his three interceptions were too much for his team to overcome. The Stamps lead the CFL in pass attempts and passing yards this season, but Mitchell ranks almost at the bottom of the league in terms of quarterback efficiency – only Taylor Cornelius of the Elks has a lower rating in terms of passers with over 100 attempts in 2021.

As for the Redblacks, they continue to linger in the basement of the CFL, leading to the firing of general manager Marcel Desjardins this week. Moving forward, Ottawa needs to find some form of consistency at the quarterback position to turn the tide back to positive results. First-year Redblacks head coach Paul LaPolice will use the last three games of the season to evaluate both Devlin Hodges and Caleb Evans, who equally struggled last week in Hamilton during a 32-3 defeat against the Ticats. Ottawa rank dead last in lot of offensive categories, but the defense has sputtered this season as well, leading to a league-worst rush defense giving up over 115 yards per game.

The betting line in this matchup has remained relatively stagnant, with the Stamps staying as a double-digit favorites on the road. However, the driver seat has not been kind to Calgary, the Stampeders are an awful 0-4-1 against the spread in their last five games as a road favorite.

Not to mention, the Stamps are 3-13-1 ATS against teams with a losing record.

However, trends for the Redblacks aren't much better, Ottawa are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games as a home underdog.

Any play in this contest should be a minimal one, but, the Redblacks are bad so let's ride with the better football team regardless of the venue.

Pick: Calgary -10.5
