The Betting Perspective - EDM @ TOR

Edmonton @ Toronto (-1): TOTAL 45.5

The final week of the 2021 CFL season kicks off Tuesday night, as the Toronto Argonauts host the Edmonton Elks.

This is the first contest of the year that literally means absolutely nothing, but there's a betting line, so let's break it down from a wagering viewpoint.

The Edmonton Elks walk into Toronto hapless and frustrated with how this season has played out, Edmonton are 2-10 and have lost 8 games in a row. Taylor Cornelius has shown flashes at quarterback but remains winless on the year, Cornelius has chucked nine touchdowns against seven interceptions in 2021. Everything in Edmonton is currently up in the air, recently acquired Nick Arbuckle sits in the wings as potentially the starting signal caller moving forward. First year head coach Jaime Elizondo has done little to implant confidence in the Elks fanbase and the smoke is circling general manager Brock Sunderland after a bad couple of months riddled with controversy.

As for Toronto, their regular season work is done after a massive win last week against Hamilton. The result clinched first place in the East division and assured an East Final date at BMO field, with a spot in the Grey Cup on the line. Quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson sits as the third quarterback on the depth chart Tuesday, so he will have the night off, cueing Antonio Pipken to start versus the Elks. The mission is clear for Toronto, stay healthy at all costs.

The boatmen sit as favorites in this contest despite some key starters getting the day off, reasoning for the line might be because the Argos are undefeated this year at home.

Any play in this one is small, because we have no idea what type of effort we're going to see.

Edmonton have been terrible this season, so let's roll with the better team, even with backups.

Pick: Toronto -1
