The Betting Perspective - MTL @ EDM
Montreal @ Edmonton (-3): Total 49
Week 2 sees the 2021 debut of the final CFL team yet to play a game this season when the Alouettes take the field in Edmonton to battle the Elks.
The first week of football was an observational one for Montreal and it must be an advantage heading into action Saturday night. Khari Jones and his staff watched Trevor Harris and the Elks struggle mightily against the Redblacks. The Alouettes maybe took the biggest hit during the cancelled season, the organization saw a huge turnaround in 2019 along with a recent ownership change. Vernon Adams Jr. is now undoubtedly the guy in charge at the quarterback position after he signed an extension through the 2022 season.
Edmonton has major questions about their squad coming off a bad performance against the Redblacks in the opener. The Elks came up just a yard short in the final seconds when James Tuck was tackled by Abdul Kanneh at the goal line to end the game. But the game went wrong for Edmonton long before the last play, the Elks failed to score a touchdown in the first game under their new name. To make matters worse, it was Edmonton’s offense that handed a major score to Ottawa when Trevor Harris chucked an interception to Abdul Kanneh who took it back 102 yards to the endzone.
The Elks have stayed a field goal favorite since the line opened, but more public money has come in on the Alouettes. Edmonton have not covered a spread in their last 4 games at home and after the performance at Commonwealth versus Ottawa, there’s little market confidence that tide will change Saturday. Regardless of the close line, be confident in the Alouettes starting the season on the right foot.
