The Betting Perspective - OTT @ BC

Ottawa @ BC (-7.5): TOTAL 44.5

Week 6 of CFL action ends in Vancouver Saturday night as the BC Lions face the Ottawa Redblacks.

The Redblacks are struggling, losers of three in a row and fresh off giving up a season-high point total to the Montreal Alouettes in a 51-29 defeat at home just a week ago. Despite the big margin loss, the Redblacks did show some offensive punch for the first time this season, not with starting quarterback Matt Nichols but backup Dominique Davis. Nichols was pulled early in the game after just five pass attempts, one of those an interception to Als defensive back Greg Reid. Dominique Davis then grabbed the reigns and gave Ottawa life, he went 22 of 33, with almost 300 yards passing, a pair of touchdowns along with a couple of interceptions. The offensive spark showed seemed to be dimmed by the Redblacks struggles to stop the Alouettes, Montreal quarterback Vernon Adams Jr tossed four touchdowns and 288 yards in the contest. It is very clear; Ottawa Head Coach Paul LaPolice has a ton of work ahead and it doesn't end with the worst offense in the CFL.

As for the Lions, BC sat out Labour Day festivities after a 24-12 victory in Ottawa against the Redblacks on August 28th. BC quarterback Michael Reilly chucked a touchdown and just over 300 yards in the win; Reilly has not thrown an interception in four games this season but has only found the endzone through the air twice in 2021. The Lions' only two wins have come against the basement team from both divisions, so we won't know the quality of Rick Campbell's group until they repeatedly play and potentially beat solid opponents. BC's defense has been very good this season outside of an awful first half against the Riders in their opener and going up against a very suspect offense, Saturday should see another productive day for that squad.

Eventually, the plan of "picking on the Redblacks" will have to end, but until we see it, let's ride this out. The Lions -7.5 spread is a lot to lay on a team that hasn't shown a ton this season. BC are 4-0 ATS versus the Redblacks in their last four head-to-head meetings and bettors are predictably moving the line towards BC.

If you're on the Lions, get in now before the line climbs again.

Pick: BC -7.5
