Week 8 in the Canadian Football League concludes in Vancouver as the Saskatchewan Roughriders face the red-hot BC Lions.
The Riders bounced back from their back-to-back losses against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers last week, defeating the Argonauts 30-16. Cody Fajardo threw for a pair of touchdowns and 212 yards against Toronto but it was the William Powell re-coming out party against the Argos. Powell ran for 122 yards on 21 carries, it was the first time this season he eclipsed the century mark. Powell's production added to the nearly 60 yards on the ground from Fajardo, once again cemented what peak Riders ground attack could be moving forward. On the defensive side of the ball, the Riders have been the best team in the CFL stopping the run, they've only given up 445 yards this season through six games.
As for the BC Lions, they've won three games in a row and quarterback Michael Reilly looks to be in fine form. Reilly has thrown for 300 yards in each of his last three starts, adding seven touchdown passes against just one interception over that span. The BC Lions offensive line have been much better since the return of left tackle Joel Figueroa to the lineup despite right tackle Ryker Mathews still being out with injury. Last week, the Lions kept the Montreal Alouettes out of the endzone in their road win, forcing Als kicker David Cote into six field goals. BC's defense have given up 106 points this season, that ranks second-best in the CFL and the Lions are also tied for the most interceptions this year with 10.
The betting line for this Lions, Riders contest has stayed relatively stagnant and is currently holding at Saskatchewan -1. These two teams faced each other in the season opener, with the Lions scoring a backdoor cover after an almost comeback in the second half. The BC cover ended a six-game streak for the Riders against the spread and should be taken into consideration for this week's matchup.
The Lions are a confident group and with the current win streak, coupled with new ownership, should have the crowd at BC Place buzzing for this game. The Lions are 4-0 against the spread in their last four games as an underdog.
Home team, as a dog. With Michael Reilly rolling.
Yes, please.
