The Betting Perspective - WPG @ EDM
Winnipeg (-12) @ Edmonton: TOTAL 43.5
Week 11 of the Canadian Football League season sees a much smaller schedule with only three games following Thanksgiving festivities. And things get started in Edmonton, as the reeling Elks take on the CFL's best and defending Grey Cup Champions Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
The Bombers come into action Friday night, just waiting, waiting for the regular season to end. Now, Head Coach Mike O'Shea would never tell the media they're just looking ahead to the playoffs, but with an 8-1 record and a six-point lead atop the division – the road to Hamilton will go through IG Field in Winnipeg. Bombers quarterback Zach Collaros might be well on his way to an MOP award at season's end, Collaros has thrown 13 touchdowns against five interceptions and leads the CFL in passing yards. On the defensive side of the ball, Richie Hall's group have been dominant for a second season in a row. Winnipeg have allowed the fewest amount of points in 2021 with 110 against, 56 less than the next closest competitor. Last week, the Elks gained less than 200 yards of total offense against the Bombers, including just 87 yards through the air for veteran quarterback Trevor Harris.
The Week 10 Elks 30-3 defeat in Winnipeg might have been the end for Trevor Harris in Green and Gold. Head Coach Jaime Elizondo announced just days ago, the Elks with be moving forward with the duo of Taylor Cornelius and Dakota Prukop at the quarterback position. The decision comes despite Harris throwing for 121 more career touchdowns than the tandem that will now replace him, starting against Winnipeg. On the other side of the ball, Edmonton has given up the second-most points in the league, in large part, because of the 11 interceptions from their quarterbacks this season puuting them in bad spots on the field.
The betting line for this game currently sits with the Bombers laying 12 points on the road at Commonwealth. The spread is slightly down from the opening 13-point line that came out on Wednesday.
The game Friday night will be the largest spread in this matchup since 2005, the Elks were favored by 18 in that contest and failed to cover.
Winnipeg are miles better than Edmonton and one would have to think, morale in the Elks locker room is at an all-time low.
Take the Bombers in a rout.
