The Betting Perspective - WPG @ SSK

Winnipeg @ Saskatchewan (-4.5): TOTAL 42.5

Labour Day Weekend action continues in Regina with clearly the best two teams in the league through four weeks, as the Blue Bombers head into Saskatchewan to face the Riders.

Winnipeg come into this rivalry game off a narrow home win against the Stampeders last Sunday. In that contest, the Blue Bombers gave up over 300 yards passing through the air to CFL newcomer Jake Maier. Winnipeg's defense is undoubtedly the strength of the organization, but the Bombers have struggled to get to the quarterback so far this season. Winnipeg ranks in the bottom half of the league in sacks despite facing the most pass attempts against in the CFL. As for the Bombers offense, Andrew Harris made his 2021 debut after an injury to start the season and the reigning Grey Cup MOP found the endzone in the opening quarter.

The Roughriders remain the CFL's only undefeated team at 3-0, in addition to a league-best +39 point differential and if not for a sleepy second half performance against the Lions in the opener, that margin would be astronomically higher. Cody Fajardo has thrown four touchdowns against just one pick this season, along with the most rushing yards by a quarterback. The Bombers defense is susceptible to the passing game, they've given up 617 yards through the air in the last two weeks. Now, Winnipeg defensive linemen Willie Jefferson and Jackson Jeffcoat remain one of the best pass rush duos but teams have not been scared to drop back and the Roughriders possess one the most potent well-versed offenses in Canada.

This betting line has seen some movement, Riders opened as a 3.5 point favorite, it has since been bet up to 4.5 essentially across the board. If the line continues to creep towards a full touchdown, the Bombers might be the play. However, if you can get in early, the Riders on their home field going up against a defense that have shown major cracks might be the best play.

Pick: Saskatchewan -4.5
