The Week That Was

Another week in the books for us here at CFP, and we couldn't be more thankful to have such a strong, loyal listenership. Based on the numbers alone, many of you have already trusted us as your source for Canadian football coverage and we can't wait to grow that trust with you, and the larger audience that will follow.

For now, we want to simply say thank you for being a day one Canadian Football Perspective Podcast listener!

As we grow and create more diverse Canadian Football content our roster of talented contributors will be expanding. This week we are thrilled to welcome two new members of the CFP team.

Ben Grant has been coaching high school and semi-pro football in the GTA since 2003. He writes, does video analysis, and hosts a tremendous podcast for 'Xs and Argos', which he founded in 2019. Ben joins as our Argonauts analyst, with a team specific focus that we will be looking to expand to the other eight CFL markets when the right opportunity presents itself.

On the U SPORTS side Kellen Forrest is on-board as a feature writer. Kellen is a former University Calgary Dino defensive back and a recent graduate of the Centennial College Sports Journalism grad program who claims to have athletically peaked in high school - I can relate - but journalistically is just getting started.

We are in talks with a variety of great partners who we hope to announce in the coming days, more on that to kickoff March AND we're on TikTok! Connor O'Neil will be posting videos, breakdowns, podcast snippets and more on TikTok in our blatant attempt to welcome the youths.

Finally, in a busy week there might have been no more exciting moment for me than sharing our #CFPDogs initiative. I've always wanted to do my small part to help get SPCA dogs a better standard of living and more exposure to find their forever home, and CFP has given me that platform.

Each week on CFP we will be featuring a CFP 'Dog of the week' in hopes to help that dog get the awareness it deserves to have a chance for adoption ASAP. My hope is that SPCA's will become the champion charity of Canadian Football Perspective as we grow together with our K-9 partners.

Here is the weekday recap of all CFP Podcasts for February 22-26, 2021 which you can catch up on anytime HERE!

Monday - The Eh Block w/ Marshall Ferguson

I caught up with recently retired Ticats, Argos and Redblacks utility man Rico Murray.

We weaved through his time in Hamilton, favourite teammates, best CFL quarterbacks he ever faced and memories of his lone Grey Cup championship, the 2017 Toronto Argonauts.

Tuesday - All-Canadian w/ Connor O'Neil & Wade Zanchetta

On the first 'All-Canadian' episode of the week Connor and Wade take a look around the CFL at draft needs and start to get a sense for which big name Central Scouting Bureau members might find themselves taken in the first round.

Wednesday - The Breakdown w/ DT & Marsh

DT and I went DEEP this week. 90 minutes of hardcore CFL analysis on everything from the Argos offseason approach of signing big names, to best CFL free agents remaining and where they should play before finishing with Grey Cup contender tiers as we enter March.

Thursday - All-Canadian w/ Connor O'Neil & Wade Zanchetta

Thursday Connor and Wade caught up with University of Maine Linebacker Deshawn Stevens, originally from Toronto to discuss his recovery from a torn achilles, style of play and the six game Maine Black Bears schedule that begins March 6th!

Deshawn is not only a thoughtful talker, he's also the Central Scouting Bureau's highest rated linebacker in the 2021 draft class and the 14th ranked overall prospect. Well worth your time.

Friday - Marsh & Melo

Myself and Kyle Melo take you through the week that was from Trent Richardson signing in Mexico for unknown reasons and roles, to Tiger's crash, Russia's hockey meddling, the CFL's return to play protocols and more before the Hamilton Spectator's Steve Milton joins to talk Commonwealth Games and Tim Hauraney on the incredible IndyCar comeback of Romain Grosjean.

What's Next?

On Monday CFL Commissioner Randy Ambrosie joins me to discuss the CFL's return to play plan and what leadership in an unprecedented situation is really about.

More great shows and articles on the way. Subscribe, follow on Twitter, Instagram and online at CFPerspective.com for more great Canadian Football analysis including the debut of more video content beginning this week!

Marshall Ferguson is a former U SPORTS Quarterback, CFP Founder, Host & Director of Content. He is the voice of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, CFL.ca analyst and a fan of inside jokes, especially once he gets to be part of one.
